Practice Guidelines for Management of the Difficult Airway

چکیده
PRACTICE guidelines are systematically developed recommendations that assist the practitioner and patient in making decisions about health care. These recommendations may be adopted, modified, or rejected according to clinical needs and constraints. Practice guidelines are not intended as standards or absolute requirements. The use of practice guidelines cannot guarantee any specific outcome. Practice guidelines are subject to revision as warranted by the evolution of medical knowledge, technology, and practice. They provide basic recommendations that are supported by analysis of the current literature and by a synthesis of expert opinion, open forum commentary, and clinical feasibility data. This revision includes data published since the “Practice Guidelines for Management of the Difficult Airway” were adopted by the American Society of Anesthesiologists in 1992; it also includes data and recommendations for a wider range of management techniques than was previously addressed.

متن کاملClinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of the Difficult Airway in Obstetric Anesthesia
The purpose of this review is to discuss clinical practice guidelines for the management of the difficult airway in obstetric anesthesia. In the obstetric population, most anesthetic-related maternal deaths still result from complications of airway management following induction of general anesthesia for cesarean delivery (1-4). Airway management in pregnant patients is widely accepted as being...
متن کاملHow anaesthesiologists understand difficult airway guidelines—an interview study
BACKGROUND In the practice of anaesthesia, clinical guidelines that aim to improve the safety of airway procedures have been developed. The aim of this study was to explore how anaesthesiologists understand or conceive of difficult airway management algorithms. METHODS A qualitative phenomenographic design was chosen to explore anaesthesiologists' views on airway algorithms. Anaesthesiologist...
متن کاملDifficult Airway Society Guidelines for the management of tracheal extubation.
Tracheal extubation is a high-risk phase of anaesthesia. The majority of problems that occur during extubation and emergence are of a minor nature, but a small and significant number may result in injury or death. The need for a strategy incorporating extubation is mentioned in several international airway management guidelines, but the subject is not discussed in detail, and the emphasis has b...
